Here I go, blurbin’ this week about how obsessed I am with citrus and how it’s loaded with Vitamin C and antioxidants and all that good stuff that helps keep you healthy…. and I get sick. Again. Urgh. I’ve been SO incredibly busy that it was bound to happen between flying for work, working out in a few different gyms lately, hanging with friends and working in an office building; I’m exposed to so many different settings I just can’t wash my hands enough!

Well I’m still loading up on citrus nevertheless because it’s so flippin’ beautiful! I mean come on, just look at it. I use to never really be a huge fan of citrus but now I laugh at that old Britt in the face. I mean look at what I was missing! Growing up during the winter my mom almost always had half a grapefruit with her breakfast. Moms really do know best.

We all know that most of us can’t start the day on JUST 1/2 of broiled grapefruit. At least I can’t. I’d fall over weak in the knees!

We need a hearty, healthy breakfast to jump start our metabolism and kick our bodies into gear for the day. I decided to use my basic clean crumble recipe that I’ve used on some desserts to top on a traditional broiled grapefruit.

The crumble is made with oat flour, ground flax seed, egg white and honey which gives the grapefruit just a little more substance! Add in a hard-boiled egg and you have yourself a well-rounded breakfast!


Broiled Grapefruit Crumble

Broiled grapefruit crumble has a clean crumble topping that adds a fun touch to traditional broiled grapefruit which makes it a more complete, healthy breakfast option!

  • 1 Grapefruit
  • 3 tbsp. oat flour
  • 2 tbsp. ground flax seed
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 tsp. honey


  1. Turn oven broiler on.
  2. Cut the grapefruit in half and place in an oven safe dish. You may need to cut the bottom just a little bit so the grapefruit sits upright.
  3. Drizzle the top of each grapefruit half with 1 tsp. of honey.
  4. Broil for 5 minutes.
  5. In a bowl mix together the oat flour, ground flax, egg white and remaining 1 tsp. of honey.
  6. Take grapefruit out of oven and sprinkle clumps of the crumble mixture back on top of grapefruit.
  7. Broil for 2 minutes.
  8. Serve immediately!
