Pita chips can be my weakness so I justify that with healthy dip. All in balance right?! …right…


The thing I probably love most about hummus is that you can make it a million different ways, with a million different flavors.

Okay maybe not a million. But a lot. A lot of yummy and nutritious ways.

The health benefits of all of the ingredients are pretty appealing as well. It’s not all about the looks people, it’s what’s on the inside of the hummus that really matters.

  • Chickpeas–>are high in dietary fiber. May help lower cholesterol.
  • Tahini (sesame seed paste)–>healthy fatty acid, protein rich, helps boost thiamine intake (known as the b-1 vitamin)
  • Butternut Squash–>high in dietary fiber, provides significant amounts of potassium, vitamin B6
  • Cilantro–>natural cleansing agent
  • Lemon–> helps restore balance to the body’s ph, rich in Vitamin C
  • Olive Oil–>healthy fat, helps lower levels of blood cholesterol
  • Garlic–>powerful natural antibotic

Butternut Squash & Cilantro Hummus

Butternut squash & cilantro hummus is a tasty appetizer to add to any party spread.

  • 1/4 cup Tahini
  • 2 tbsp. chopped cilantro
  • 3 tbsp. fresh squeezed lemon
  • 2 cups chopped cooked butternut squash
  • 1 can organic garbanzo beans
  • 2 tbsp. EVO
  • 1 small garlic clove
  • Black pepper to taste


  1. Cook squash halves in oven on 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  2. Measure out rest of ingredients.
  3. Put ingredients into a food processor.
  4. Add squash once done.
  5. Blend together until you reach desired consistency.
  6. (Mixture should be thick and creamy).
