Happy Monday to you!
This weekend, as part of my #SaturdaySweat initiative to get moving more, I tried my first boxing class!
I’ll admit I was EXTREMELY nervous. I always tend to get so worked up and nervous before trying something new. I’m constantly working on trying to adjust my mind frame when it comes to this. “B” was my positive reinforcement and reassured me the instructor will take it easy on me since it was my first class.
Boy was I glad that I went! I think I found a new activity to incorporate into my fitness routine. Also I want pink boxing gloves! 🙂
I loved everything about the class. Except the jump roping part, I’m terrible at jump roping! The class started with jump roping three rounds to warm up, then you moved into stretches and lined up to begin some boxing moves. “B” taught me what 1, 2, 3, uppercut, slip and roll meant before the class so I’m glad I was familiar with boxing lingo. After mimicking the instructors moves he switched us to some ab exercises then to shadow boxing with light weights. “Shadow Boxing” just means you’re basically boxing an invisible opponent and can hold no weights or light weights from 1-5 pounds.
The whole structure of the class was that you go hard at boxing moves for 2-3 minutes then do push-ups, ab exercises or squats between rounds. We were moving the entire hour and only stopped a few times for water breaks. As tiring as this was, it kept my attention and was actually FUN!
I enjoyed learning the various moves and techniques. I also never realized your body could be SO SORE after mostly body-weight exercises. By Saturday night I could barely hold my arms up and by Sunday my entire body ached! What a great workout though.
I took the class at X3 Sports Atlanta. I’m hoping to try a few other of their classes such as the fast track (which is similar to cross-fit but for endurance, power track (for strength) & kickboxing and will do a full review about the facility then!
Hopefully you had an active weekend!
Enjoy your Monday!
