This weekend I had the pleasure of attending my first Barre class! Izabela Amos and her husband are opening a new Barre3 studio in The Avenue- East Cobb. In preparation for their opening they’ve been hosting free community classes at local stores throughout the area. Izabela invited me to the class held at the Big Peach Running Company in Marietta this past Saturday morning.
I honestly walked into the class a bit nervous because of how much I’ve heard about Barre. I’ve heard it was a great workout but wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pick up the “moves” right away. Barre is a mix of yoga, Pilates and ballet moves. It focuses on short and repetitive moments to give those tiny muscles a deep burn. And BOY DO THEY. Izabela made sure to let us know that shaking muscles was a GOOD thing and that meant you were working muscles in new ways and building a stronger body. I have never seen my muscles shake uncontrollably so much! It was a bit embarrassing at first but then I decided to embrace this new challenge and have fun with it.
The movements were easy to learn and the more you focused mentally on working the specific muscles the instructor pointed out the more you could feel the deep burn. We started with a warm-up and moved from leg focused moves incorporating arm movements to glute moves then finally to our stomach to focus on the core. It’s crazy how sweaty you can get from an hour and 1 inch repetitive movements.
Barre is definitely a workout I can see myself incorporating more in the future to build an overall stronger body. I focus so much on lifting heavy and running that Barre can help strengthen those smaller muscles to help prevent injuries. If you’re in the Marietta area like Barre3 Atlanta- East Cobb on Facebook for more details about their grand opening!
